The Virginia Legacy would like to congratulate the 2001 CCL Girls on their State Finals run earlier this month.
In a very close match the girls fell to BAC from Northern Virginia by a score of 2-1. On the day the Legacy girls were great all over the field except in front of goal outshooting BAC (21-4) but just weren't able to capitalize on their chances. Though the day ended in disappointment for the girls - they made club history by becoming the first girls group to reach such a level in the ultimate tournament the state of Virginia provides (The Virginia State Cup). Many of the girls who will be graduating and continuing their playing careers in college next fall - were a part of the club since they were youngsters and have endured lots of ups and downs to get to this point.
"As U12/13 players - many of these girls were part of winless teams - mainly because athleticially they hadn't developed into who they are today - but they had great foundations of technique, great coaches and most importantly a great attitude and work ethic to keep getting better. They viewed their soccer journeys in the long term - not sacrificing for short term results - and it has paid off with a 2nd place finish in the state tournament and individually as many of the girls are acheiving their goals of playing soccer collegiately. I have been able to watch these girls grow up and I and the club are extremely proud of their accomplishments!" Bobby O'Brien - Technical Director
"I am very happy for these girls. Though the result didnt go our way today - we showed we are one of the top teams and programs in the state and deserve to compete at this level. These girls have come a very long way with Legacy and I am very proud to have been able to coach them as they reached this milestone. They have a lot of young girls looking up to them in the club and I couldn't pick better role models for our youngest girls in the club." Shawn Trueblood - Head Coach/Girls Director
Again we would like to congratulate the 2001 girls on their history making championship match run and being the first girls team to finish as State Finalists!
