Legacy 76 - Announces 2014 Schedule

Season Opens May 17th!!

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – While the world’s soccer superstars are taking part in the FIFA World Cup this summer, the best local talent in Williamsburg and Newport News will take the field for Legacy 76 during its inaugural season of play in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).  Legacy 76 will open their 2014 campaign with a home match against Chesterfield United on Saturday, May 17th at Sanford B. Wanner Stadium in Williamsburg.

The NPSL is the largest amateur league in the United States and Legacy 76 will join 77 other teams as they compete for the 2014 NPSL Championship.  Legacy 76 will play in the Mid-Atlantic Conference, which includes 2013 NPSL Champion RVA FC and Major League Soccer’s DC United U23s.  Legacy 76 will be joined by Chesterfield United, and fellow newcomers ASA Charge (Md.) and Virginia Beach City FC in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.

“I believe that our division is one of the most exciting and most competitive in the NPSL,” states Legacy 76 Head Coach Eric Dutt.  “There is no doubt that there will be a lot of talent on display this summer.  RVA FC is the defending NPSL Champion and DC United U23s are affiliated with the Major League Soccer club.  Both teams are sure to have rosters full of future professionals.”

Legacy 76 will play each team in the division twice throughout the summer (once at home and once away).  The team plans to utilize stadiums in both Williamsburg and Newport News to play its six matches this summer.  In addition to the season-opener on May 17th against Chesterfield United, Legacy 76 will play FXBG FC (Fredericksburg) on Saturday, May 24th and RVA FC on Tuesday, June 10th at Sanford B. Wanner Stadium in Williamsburg.  The team’s final three home matches will take place at Captains Field on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News.  “One of our goals for Legacy 76 is to bring a high-level, competitive and professional soccer environment to the fans and soccer families in both Williamsburg and Newport News,” explains Virginia Legacy Technical Director Bobby O’Brien.  “We believe that by utilizing the great facilities at both venues, we will be able to better achieve our goals.”
