Legacy Adds New Staff for 2021

Legacy Adds New Staff for 2021

The Virginia Legacy is proud to announce the following staff changes for the 2021/22 seasons and going forward.  With the announcement last week of Director of Coaching Paul Membrino leaving us after 6 years to move back home (north) with his family to be closer to relatives – the Virginia Legacy will make the following changes for Fall 2021/22 and are excited about the new opportunities for these individuals.

Brendan Cook (Cookie) will become the Boys Travel Director for U13-19 teams.  Over the past few years Coach Cook has worked in a variety of roles and capacities within the club and coach both boys and girls teams at the elite, premier and intro levels.  He currently has his US Soccer “C” License and is working towards the achievement of his “B” License.  Coach Cook who like many staff grew up playing for the Virginia Legacy (then Williamsburg Soccer Club) and played collegiately at CNU down the road – has many ties to not only the area but the players and families -  and we are thrilled to move him into this new role.

“For anyone that has seen Coach Cookie on the fields at training and at games knows he is extremely passionate for the players.  He not only spends time on the tactical side of the learning development for players but also the mental and psychological – while also teaching them many core values to make them strong leaders and young men/women off the field.  Regardless of the player – he always gives his best to improve that players experience and that is something we want leading our boys program.” (Technical Director – Bobby O’Brien)

Jonny Kamara (Amadou) will join the Legacy Full-Time in Fall 2021 as the Boys Travel Director for U9-U12 teams.  Jonny who has carried this role part time over the past year will truly be able to dedicate his time now to the enjoyment, experience and development of our youngest travel team players at all levels.  Jonny has been an integral part of the development of so many players over the past 25+ years.  Many of his former players at the youngest ages – who have grown up and played their careers are now giving back by being coaches – not only at the club level but also as directors and collegiately.  Jonny was a youth coach for 3 of the current Full Time directors at Virginia Legacy.

“Regardless of the age of the player, the ability level of the player, Jonny will make sure they have an excellent soccer experience.  That is what we want at our youngest entry-level teams – is the pure enjoyment of soccer.  He creates soccer fans for life and many grow up to give back to the game – because of their first experiences with him in their lives as a coach.  I am living proof of that and we are so excited to have Jonny join our staff Full Time and continue to raise the enjoyment level for our next generation of players, parents and soccer fans.”  (Technical Director – Bobby O’Brien)

Our third piece heading into 2021 will be the promotion of girls coach Allie Segura to Girls Age Group Coordinator for (U6-U9).  Currently Allie Coaches 2 U10 Girls teams for the Legacy and spends her off time helping the U6 Recreational Girls, ADP (U6-U9) Girls and the She Can Dream Clinic Series.  A former collegiate player at VMI, Allie has been integral in providing the strong female role model we are looking for in our youngest players.  She too has really increased the enjoyment level of many of our first time players, fostering their love for the sport and in turn increased their likelihood to continue playing for years to come.  Allie will take on this official role starting Fall 2021 and will be involved in the development and programming for all girls players ages 5-9.  She currently has her US Soccer “D” License and is pursuing her “C” License Fall 2021.

“Allie has shown a commitment to girls soccer in the recent years on the Peninsula and in Williamsburg and we are excited to expand her role.  The number of girls we have playing and participating is amazing and we know its because of the hard work she and Mary are putting in to make sure its more than about on the field but also about the culture families are letting their young daughters join, and how soccer combined with strong role models will help them excel down the road.” (Technical Director – Bobby O’Brien)

Again we are very excited about the direction and staff we have involved for Fall 2021 – so please congratulate these individuals when you see them on the field. For anyone interested in joining the Legacy Family – be sure to check out the information below!
