Last night was the final high school match for 7 Legacy players who were selected to participate in the annual VHSL East/ West All- Star Match. Virginia Legacy represented 7 players and 1 coach out of the 38 players and coaches selected to participate in the match based on their high school seasons and careers.
The East team won the match in front of its home crowd - played at Christopher Newport University (CNU) - with a score of 5-1.
Sammy Blosser (Menchville), Alex Emerson (Lafayette), Reilly Maw (Tabb), Calvin Mitchell (Lafayette), Jack Nichting (Menchville) and Emery Trott (Lafayette) were all teammates with the Virginia Legacy U18 Wizards. Jamestown’s Bobby O’Brien (VLSC Director) was one of the East’s coaches and Mitchell Williams of AA state champion Blacksburg (U18 Wizards) was on the West squad.
"I don’t think we’ve ever had this many Legacy players in the all-star game," said O’Brien. "I think they are seven of the best nine or ten players in the game"
Calvin Mitchell, a Group AA All-State selection for Region I champion Lafayette, agreed with O’Brien. "We were very good together as a club. We pushed each other, were competitive with each other and strove to be the best. We also stuck together off the field."
That proved to be true as Reilly Maw took home the game MVP honors - scoring the first goal of the game and Emery Trott and Alex Emerson were solid in the back and goal respectively as the West’s lone goal came late in the game after both players had been substituted out of the match due to the 5-0 scoreline.
Congratulations again to those 7 on their selection to the game and on their fabulous club and high school soccer career!
