Virginia Legacy Announces NPSL Head Coach

Williamsburg, VA - The Virginia Legacy, a 2014 expansion team in the National Premier Soccer League, is proud to announce its first Head Coach, Eric Dutt.  Dutt currently serves as the Director of Youth Development for the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club and will now be responsible for leading the NPSL team next summer.  Dutt is no stranger to the league as he won the NPSL Championship as a player in 2011 with Jacksonville United FC.

"I would like to thank the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club for this opportunity.  This is a very exciting time for our club and our community," said Dutt.  "The NPSL is a league dedicated to growing the game in the United States and we are looking forward to creating a professional environment and competing against some of the nation’s best teams."

Virginia Legacy will play in the NPSL South Region and will face some stiff competition against local and regional rivals.  RVA FC, located along the I-64 cooridor in Richmond, VA is the defending NPSL National Champion.  DC United, of Major League Soccer, also currently fields a U23 side in the NPSL South Region.

While being an expansion team in 2014 may provide the team with a unique set of challenges, Dutt is looking forward to the adventure.  "There is always an initial learning curve for new teams.  However, two of the last three national champions won the title in their first season of play.  We will look to build a competitve team with local talent and play an effective style of soccer.  The team will play hard, play with passion, and look to create a professional atmosphere that the soccer fans in our community will enjoy."

Dutt has proven a success at all levels of the game and currently holds a USSF "A" License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, and U.S. Soccer National Youth License.  Prior to coming to Virginia Legacy, he spent three seasons as the assistant coach at Stetson University.  During his time at Stetson, Dutt was responsible for all aspects of the program under Head Coach T. Logan Fleck as the men’s program achieved new heights, winning the 2009 Atlantic Sun Championship and compiling an overall record of 32-17-6.  During the summer of 2011, Dutt served as the Head Coach of the FC Jax Destroyers of the USL Premier Development League.  Five members of that team went on to earn professional soccer contracts in the United States.

Dutt, orginially from Melbourne, Florida, graduated from the University of Richmond in 2004 where he led the Spiders to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001.  After graduation, he earned his Masters of Science degree in Sports Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.  During his time at VCU, Dutt served as the Graduate Assistant for the men’s soccer program that finished the season ranked No. 7 in the nation.

In 2006, Dutt returned to the playing field and signed a professional contract with the Richmond Kickers.  During that season, the Kickers won both the USL Division 2 Regular Season and League Championships.

"I am thrilled that Eric has accepted the opportunity to coach our new NPSL team," said Virginia Legacy Director, Bobby O’Brien.  "His knowledge of the game, passion for player development, and experience in the NPSL makes him an extremely valuable asset to our club, our community and our team."
