Legacy and Tidewater Sharks announce a new partnership
Introducing Virginia Reign
Virginia Legacy and the Tidewater Sharks are partnering together to create a third club, Virginia Reign. Virginia Reign will be two-faceted, consisting of:
-
Girls Program: A combination of all existing girls developmental and elite travel programming at Legacy and at the Sharks. Rather than Legacy and the Sharks independently offering girls developmental and travel programming, all current Legacy and Sharks girls travel and developmental programming will reside in one new Virginia Reign girls' program.
-
Boys Program: One and only one travel team at each birth year level from U13 – U17, U18/19 (six total teams). These will be elite teams designed to pool the very best talent from our region. There will be no additional boys teams (e.g. second-tier, third-tier, etc.) beyond the one per birth year level.
The following programs will remain intact:
-
All Sharks and Legacy boys' travel programming
-
All Sharks and Legacy boys’ developmental programming
-
All Sharks and Legacy co-ed rec programming
Tidewater Sharks and the Virginia Legacy will continue to operate as independent clubs; the clubs are not merging. Virginia Reign is now a third club directed and coached by individuals who have overlapping directorship and coaching appointments within the original two clubs.
“I’m excited to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Tidewater Sharks to organize Virginia Reign. Virginia Reign will be a great opportunity for our area girls to play in a united soccer program where they can successfully compete against teams throughout our state and region. Likewise, our area boys will also be able to play on highly competitive teams, based locally, that encourage development as players that can compete at a championship level.” – Stu Spirn, Legacy President
"Our mission has always been to put the interests of the players first and that is why we are very excited about this announcement. The new program gives better opportunities for both boys and girls looking to play at the elite level. In addition, it will be home to all girls players who have played with Virginia Legacy and Tidewater Sharks. The club will serve players throughout Hampton Roads area and tryouts will be open to everyone. We cant wait to watch the results on the field." - Chris Haywood, Tidewater Sharks Founder
Virginia Reign’s first season will be the 2022/23 season. ID sessions and tryouts will take place in March, April and May 2022. No changes will take effect until the completion of the Legacy and Sharks 2021/22 seasons.
